With tax season just around the corner, millions of Americans are gathering receipts for health care expenditures as they look for ways to get the most out of their health care dollars. CVS/pharmacy, the nation's largest retail pharmacy, offers a simple way to get full access to your prescription history for tax preparation and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) management through CVS.com.
Patients who sign up for the Prescription Management feature on the new CVS.com will have a quick and easy way to review and print their prescription histories and expenses. As an additional way to maximize health care dollars, patients also will be automatically alerted to a more affordable generic option, if available, when refilling a brand-name drug online.
Worried that you may leave FSA money on the table if your 2008 health care expenses don't deplete your account? Don't fret. Many employers offer a two and a half month grace period to use flex spending funds from the previous year, extending the deadline through March 15, 2009. Check with your employer to see if your deadline to spend has been extended.
To help spend any remaining funds, the new CVS.com provides an easy view of over-the-counter FSA-eligible items from home medical tests to saline solution by simply clicking on "Shop" at the top of the page and clicking "FSA eligible items" on the left hand side. And, if you've misplaced receipts, patients can call 1-800-SHOP-CVS for a flexible spending report of previous over-the-counter FSA-eligible purchases made with an ExtraCare rewards card that can be submitted directly for reimbursement. Customer service will promptly mail or email the report.
"The ability for patients to get the most of their health care dollars is an important benefit of the new CVS.com," said Helena Foulkes, executive vice president, CVS Caremark. "Not just at tax time, but year round, CVS.com is a useful tool for patients to review what they're spending and see if there are ways to make that money go farther."
The site is also a handy source of drug information and health and wellness tips. CVS.com was recently named "Best Overall Internet Site" for 2008 in the consumer health care product sales category by the eHealthcare Leadership Awards sponsored by eHealthcare Strategy & Trends magazine. CVS also captured first place at the National Conference on Health Care Consumerism as the "Best Website for Patient/Consumer Information" for the grouping of www.cvs.com, www.caremark.com and www.yourhealthconnection.com.
