The pandemic has been tough for everyone, but it has been particularly difficult for healthcare workers. For those on the front lines of the pandemic, the experience was and continues to be, traumatic. In the beginning, they faced the unknowns of a new disease and over time, having to treat patients through various surges in infection across the country.

Today, nurses are on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the world, putting both their physical and mental health in jeopardy to help patients and at-risk populations. Saying thank you to nurses and healthcare workers is more important now than ever. One way we can help them in this time of need is by spreading awareness of their outstanding efforts and providing them with resources they need to help them take care of themselves as they care for patients.

Nurses are the blood and beating heart of a hospital, which is why in 1993 the American Nurses Association declared May 6-12 as the national week to celebrate and elevate the nursing profession.

Each year National Nurses Week kicks off on May 6, Nurses Day. The week commences on May 12^th on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The theme for National Nurses Week 2016 is “Culture of Safety: It Starts With YOU”.  This year's theme honors the contributions nurses make every day to the safety and collaboration in healthcare.
