Find me on:

Each year National Nurses Week kicks off on May 6, Nurses Day. The week commences on May 12th on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The theme for National Nurses Week 2016 is “Culture of Safety: It Starts With YOU”.  This year's theme honors the contributions nurses make every day to the safety and collaboration in healthcare.

The theme is an important part of the American Nurses Association’s 2016 campaign to assist nurses in achieving a culture of safety through webinars and educational opportunities. Consider thanking nurses with gift cards this year! National Nurses week also acknowledges the commitment, compassion, and care that nurses display in their practice and profession. The theme is an important part of the ANA's promotion and advocation for the rights, health, and safety of nurses and their patients.

The Florence Nightingale Pledge

This modified  “Hippocratic Oath” was written in 1893 by Mrs. Lystra E. Gretter and a Committee for the Farrand Training School for Nurses in Detroit, MI. It was called the Florence Nightingale Pledge as a token of esteem for the founder of modern nursing.
