How can small business loyalty programs keep customers engaged?

The average American household has 29 loyalty program memberships but only actively uses 12 of them. So how can your program get into that top 41%? It’s time to go digital. Loyalty programs that include direct mail are going out of style. Emails can be more effective but can also get lost in the spam folder. So how can small businesses reach their consumers effectively to engage them in loyalty programs? The consumer smartphone is the key. Get loyalty to the consumers by putting it where they look every day, their phones. Incorporating your loyalty program with an app or as part of your broader digital media strategy takes it mobile.

According to Chris Brundage of Sage Payments Solutions76% of consumers want mobile availability of their loyalty programs while 73% of retailers are still lacking in providing it. Mobile loyalty should be an easy target to hit for marketers. Driving sales in a way that consumers are yearning for takes all of the risk out of the transition to mobile, digital-focused loyalty programs. The ROI is almost certainly guaranteed given the consumer interest. So when budget restraints and lack of manpower leave small business loyalty programs struggling, the transition to digital loyalty is what helps close the engagement gap between retailers and merchants and their consumers.
