Loyalty Points...in the office?

A fairly innovative way to use loyalty points, similar to systems credit card companies use, is now being placed in business to monitor and reward employees.  When employees perform well they receive points, instead of a bonus.  When an employee has enough points accrued they can redeem the points for experiences, travel, and gift cards.  This system is also beneficial for managers because they can monitor an employee's progress and performance over time.  If an employee does not accrue points at an acceptable rate it is obvious that the employee performance is not up to par.  This is a cool application of loyalty point systems and redemption.  A system like this is adds more fun, excitement & interactivity to workplace rewards as people will engage with the system as they accrue points. We heard about this system being used in the UK but do you know of any US companies doing this? If so, leave us a comment.  We really like this idea as a fresh way to engage employees because, for example,it might be nice to have a free gift card over a long holiday weekend!
